A New Look
While browsing around the myriad of WordPress themes at wordpress.org, I came across what you see around this text now. It’s called Technical Speech, a theme by Suhaib Khan, and I couldn’t help but think it seemed to fit what The Soft Parade entails and my background as a journalist.
Why was I browsing themes, you may ask? I was thinking about starting a new site dedicated to the paranoia… You know, aliens and all that stuff. Yeah, I believe in aliens and I think there’s something fishy about the Kennedy assassinations, but I’m not a nut about it (man did land on the moon, damnit). But instead of splitting my resources between one area of the web and another, I’ll just post such things here when they come to mind.
So what does this mean for the future of The Soft Parade, you may ask? Well, not a whole lot, really. The site looks different, it has more practical features than it did before (namely the navigation and the crunched posts), and that’s about where it will end. If you happen to think there’s more to certain subjects then authorities will initially have you believe, then you’ll probably appreciate when my paranoia sense tingles and I decide to write about it.
So keep reading, start commenting, and let the good times roll. But of course if you don’t like this new look and prefer the older (or something different all together), then leave your comment and give your suggestions. When I get bored I alter, so some direction wouldn’t hurt at all.
Update: A few of my buddies and myself all agree that the last look of the site (the one this post is dedicated to) is devoid of any personality. Until I can design or find a new WordPress theme more suited to my personality, we’ll stick with the classic theme that’s up now. It’s damn pretty, so maybe I’ll just update this one, so stay tuned for further developments!

Site Changes & New Hosting
If you’re a regular visitor then you’ll notice that there have been some major changes here at The Soft Parade. The previous hosting I was with, Host For Web, had perhaps some of the worst service I’ve ever experienced in my ten years dealing with web-based businesses. Semi-frequent down times, slow server response times, and they also messed up my administration password (to access the control panel, FTP, root e-mail, etc.) and had to reset it several times in order for me simply to login to access my own files. If you call that “reliable service,” then you need to invest in a good dictionary to look up the meaning of those two words.
Anyway, since I was being jerked around like a fat middle-aged man who’s wallet is $20 lighter in a dimly lit alley I decided to invest in hosting with ProNet Hosting. I get more for less money and have had very stable service so far with good server speeds and loads of awesome features. I actually got this new hosting to start a new venture I call Hearts of Iron Central, a news and information site for Paradox Interactive’s Hearts of Iron strategy game series, and decided to bring over this site as well.
With the change I’ve upgraded the website’s software to the latest edition and installed a new, much more attractive (in my opinion) theme and some good tweaks to make it truly my own. Chances are there will be some missing pictures and media, and I’ll spend the next little while working to get everything back online. If you happen to see any bugs, please register here at the site and leave a comment in this post so I can get everything fixed.

The Real Kid: Who Was Billy the Kid?
As those of you who visit the site with any degree of regularity may have noticed, there are several essays and articles posted that I have written over the years. Having progressed my writing skills leaps and bounds since high school, I’ve decided to update all articles on the site with editing spelling, grammar, adding in additional information, and yes, even pictures.
The first of my updates is an essay of which I am very proud of, entitled The Real Kid. This article covers the claim that Ollie P. Roberts, a Texas man, was the infamous William H. Bonney, or better known as Billy the Kid. The history books all state that The Kid was killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett, yet in 1949 his story was discovered by William Morrison, a lawyer who wasn’t even looking for a story and heard about it totally by chance. “Brushy Bill” Roberts had kept his identity a secret since the supposed 1881 murder, even from his own wife, yet wished to receive a pardon of which he was promised as a young man.
Is it myth or reality? There is evidence to support both cases, but I’ll let you read for yourself and let you form your own opinions. I’m Back!
Break out the champagne and let the streamers go… Wait, there’s nobody here… Oh well, regardless, I’ve combined what was on my old site with a blog I started but forgotten about to make this new creation. You’ll find my actual writings (articles, essays, poems, etc.) along with my front-page rantings about whatever happens to piss me off at the time.
So enjoy your stay, read some stuff, maybe tell me what you think about it by leaving a comment.

Let’s Start This Off
Well, I already have a web site, but it recieves no publicity (not sure how I’d approach that), plus manually updating everything and relying on FTP gets old when you’ve downgraded yourself to a weekend ranter… you should have heard me before! So, instead of writing and ranting to where nobody will ever see it – other the few people who actually read the notes I make on my FaceBook, I thought I’d sign up for a site that has a pretty good reputation, and maybe somewhere where fellow writers can interact with me, and of course, vice versa.
So, if you’re reading this, I bet you’re trying to figure out what my deal is, what’s my supposedly unique spin in an age where everyone has an opinion and a medium to express it. Well, in hindsight, I’m probably a lot like you. I see something that bugs me, thrills me, pleases me, or saddens me, and I want to express it. Convorsations with the majority of people my age (early twenties) is unstimulating and I usually spend more time explaining the meaning of words then I do discussing the topic at hand, so if you like an intellectual (to a extent) read and like to know how other people tick on something, then maybe you’re not wasting your time after all.
Well, all I can say is keep your eye open here at The Soft Parade, I plan on keeping this very up-to-date, at the very least a few new posts per week. Even if people don’t read this, it’s always a good thing to rant a little, don’t you think?
